I will still say 'Bless you'...

It had come to my attention this year that I really don't like LOUT SNEEZES! I mean seriously. Are they necessary? They drive me crazy. I know it's awful, strange, and somewhat still strange, but there it is. It bothers me. Don't let me hear you doing it; I may go berzerk.

Who Watches the Watchmen...

So I have had pretty much a day to recollect my thoughts on Watchmen and they are as follows:

I didn't LOVE it and I didn't HATE it. Watchmen was good, but not great. I was hoping for so much more. Probably like most fans of this graphic novel, I had really unrealistic expectations of it. I knew Zack Synder had a difficult job in translating this story into film; he did a good job, but there was just something missing. I think I figured out what it is.

Stylistically Mr. Synder is definitely developing a visual style to call his own, but he fell short at creating a narrative and compelling story (visually speaking) as he did with 300. This could account for the actors as well perhaps, but there was just something that wasn't there. Watchmen had a lot of the great visual elements that were in the graphic novel, but somehow they were presented in a way that made them look unbelievable and the whole point of Watchmen is that this story is supposed to be very believable (or at least more probable with reality).

I think my biggest beef was that the fight sequences looked too choreographed and not at all real. Once again, Watchmen is supposed to be as real as it can get. In comparison to 300, those intense battles looked like something probable. Obviously, some parts were dramatized and over-stylized, but for the most part it looked real. When I saw all my beloved Watchmen fighting it looked too polished; almost Matrix-like.

Overall I enjoyed the film and will probably own it when it comes out. However it won't appear on my Top 10.

Humbly yours,
